A man suffered serious injuries when he fell more than four metres from a ladder, landing face first on concrete at a house in Melbourne's southeast.

The 50-year-old man was painting on the upper storey of a house in Fontaine Terrace, Narre Warren South when he fell about 2.30pm (AEDT) on Thursday, an Ambulance Victoria spokesman said.

Intensive care paramedics treated the man for serious facial and head injuries and took him to The Alfred hospital.

It's the fourth case of its type in three days, the spokesman said.
